Location
Most Vancouver boarding is built around dogs meeting each other: shared yards, group walks, daycare floors. If your dog cannot be near another dog, that whole category is closed to you. This page covers what a workable stay looks like across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland instead.

Sponsored stays appear first. Each listing shows whether the host has confirmed their setup.

Clear filterDog walking and pet sitting in Vancouver neighborhoods including Kitsilano, Kerrisdale and Point Grey, with overnight sitting in your home. The host's website lists a Reactive Dogs service and solo walks, and says its off-leash group walks require dogs with no reactivity. It does not say whether reactive or aggressive dogs are accepted for overnight sitting.

New to boarding a reactive dog here? The local guide explains separation and what to ask before arranging a stay.
View market guideVancouver's dog infrastructure is unusually social. Off-leash areas, dog-friendly patios and busy seawall paths are a selling point for most owners and a minefield for a reactive dog. Boarding businesses have grown around that culture, which is why so many listings describe playgroups and "socialisation" as a benefit.
For a dog that lunges, barks or shuts down at the sight of another dog, the requirement is the opposite: no contact with other dogs at any point in the stay, a separate space it can retreat to, and a host who has handled that behavior before. Anything else puts your dog in a corridor where a surprise meeting is one door away.
The Lower Mainland spreads across Vancouver proper, the North Shore, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, Langley, Delta and Maple Ridge, and the bridges concentrate traffic into a few crossings. A host thirty minutes further out along the valley is often the calmer choice: quieter streets, more space between properties, and a drive that avoids the downtown core entirely.
With a reactive dog, count trigger exposure rather than kilometres. A short trip that ends in a dense West End block can be harder on your dog than a longer one to a detached property in Langley or Maple Ridge with its own fenced yard and no shared corridors.
From late autumn to spring, Vancouver rain shortens walks and pushes dogs and people onto the same covered paths and narrow sidewalks, which raises the odds of a close encounter. Ask a host what happens on a week of solid rain: whether there is a secure fenced yard for toilet breaks, whether walks are simply skipped in favour of decompression indoors, and what the dog does with the rest of the day.
Skipping walks is a legitimate answer for a reactive dog. A stay where your dog rests, chews and sleeps without being marched past triggers twice a day is usually a better week than one built around a schedule that suits a sociable dog.
Ask the host to describe the physical separation in their own words: which room or annexe your dog sleeps in, what stands between it and any resident dog, and what happens at the front door when someone arrives. A host who has genuinely done this will answer in specifics, not reassurances.
Ask what happens on a bad day: your dog refusing food, barking for an hour, or reacting through a window. The answer tells you whether the host has handled a reactive dog before or is describing a well-behaved one.
Agree the medication protocol in writing (dose, timing, what to do if a dose is refused), fix update windows so you are not messaging all day, and do a short handover in a quiet place rather than on a busy street.
Almost never in the usual sense. Daycare means dogs sharing a space, which is the exact thing a reactive dog cannot do. What works instead is one-to-one overnight or day care in a private home, or a sitter who stays at your place.
Often yes. Hosts in Surrey, Langley, Delta or Maple Ridge tend to have detached properties with private fenced yards and quieter streets, which usually matters more to a reactive dog than being close to downtown.
It widens your options a little, but the core requirement is unchanged: no contact with other dogs, including at arrival and pick-up. Tell the host exactly what your dog reacts to, at what distance, and how long it takes to settle.
